Work is progressing on this 5,700-square-foot custom home in Steilacoom, Washington. The Fatboy crew is currently hand-framing the house. In order to maximize the views of Puget Sound, we’re using Simpson Strong-Tie panels in the corners, so we can install large windows without compromising shear value (the ability for the walls to support horizontal loads). The craftsman-style house features an elevator, a universal design feature the homeowners chose so they’ll be able to remain in their home as they age and face the prospects of limited mobility. The home also includes vaulted ceilings and a water-tight second-floor deck; radiant heat is being installed throughout the home.
